Big Buffalo in Australia

Australia
August 7, 2016

This afternoon, we start flying back to Darwin and then on to Sydney. It’s been a really great trip. Tommy and Ricky took very nice bulls and shot some old culls.

The weather was perfect. Simon is one of the hardest working PHs I know. We hunted in a true wilderness with lots of game.

This might be the wildest place I’ve ever been….

After many hours of flying over land and sea, and in progressively smaller planes, we finally touched down on an ocher-colored dirt strip cut out of a vast eucalyptus forest. Tommy Dugger, Ricky Lester, and I arrived to Simon Kyle-Little’s 2.2 million acre aboriginal hunting conservancy in Arnhem Land.  His area is a humongous chunk of wilderness in the Northern Territory, which he’s hunted and guided, with exclusivity, for 26 years. This was my first trip to this country.

For six days, we hunted buffalo in paperbark and ironwood forests, riverine jungles, and on massive salt flats and floodplains. We saw lots of buffalo, wild pigs, wallabies, and several elusive wild ox. And of course, there were dingoes. The chorus of howling dingoes woke me every night. And, there was of shocking abundance of crocodiles; they dozed on the banks of the Walker River and along the coastline’s pristine desolate beaches. Sea crocodiles (salties) can grow to 20 feet in length or longer. There’re huge!

Longtime friend, Kinsey Robinson, hunted with Simon prior to our arrival and reported a fantastic hunt.  He took a trophy buffalo, a wild ox, and some wild pigs. Kinsey told me the trip exceeded his expectations.

Simon Kyle-Little hunts with vigor and is great, jovial company. I look forward to hunting with Simon again.  This trip exceeded my expectations, too.

Big Whitetails in Alberta and South Texas

Huge Whitetails - Alberta and Texas - GWWH

Big Whitetails from Alberta to South Texas

Cheeseburger
June 2016 –

Check out “Cheeseburger” on this pdf -what a beast! This buck was caught during the 2015 Alberta deer season on my brother, Mike’s, trail camera. Mike has outfitted hunts in Alberta since 1996 (see:
www.legendoutfitting.com). Cheeseburger is one of the biggest-bodied whitetails I have ever seen—most likely in the 400 lb. range! Mike’s hunters did not take this over-grown buck and he was spotted fat and happy after the end of the deer season. Mike has a couple of prime November 2016 rut dates available. Somebody has to go to Alberta and hunt for Cheeseburger or another giant like him!

South Texas is a long way from northern Alberta, but it’s also home to big trophy whitetails. Each season, Keith Burns and his family allow me to bring a few friends to hunt their superb Texas ranch. Their property has been intensely managed for a dozen years or more and is home to an amazing population of awesome native Texas bucks. The wildlife, accommodations, food, and, especially, the Burns family, make these deer hunts a fantastic experience. Here is a Burns ranch story written by my friend and outdoor writer, Gayne Young. The article appeared in a recent issue of the Texas Sporting Journal. It covers a quail and deer hunt with friends from California and New Jersey.

The hunts at both Mike’s and the Burns’ Ranch catered to two hunters per hunt: private and personalized. There are a few rut dates available. Give me a call for further info such as costs, dates…etc.

It’s raining a bunch in Texas and the Alberta deer lived through another mild winter. Conditions look really good for next season. Great opportunities to hunt monster bucks in the far northern prairies or the southern brush country.

Best Regards,
Gordie

Super Trip Reports – Argentina – Doves, Red Stags, Exceptional New Lodge

March 21, 2016 –

To start, I want to thank everyone that continue to trust me to handle your trips. I love what I do and I feel great satisfaction from the amazing reports I continue to receive. Thank you!!!

Greg Hall - Patagonia 2016
Since November, our Argentina outfitters have been busy hosting of our friends and fellow hunters. The dove shooting continues to be intense; the food is always delicious; and the attention to detail is second to none. More groups will be shooting in Cordoba this month. Undoubtedly, as has already been proven, the service provided by the staffs of La Zenaida, Guayascate, and Los Chanares will be exemplary. Most of our groups rebooked trips for next year.

It’s also the start of the red stag season in Patagonia. I received photos of big trophy stags taken on opening day! The beautiful mountains, foothills, and blue-ribbon trout streams of the Andes is why the Patagonia is one of my favorite regions. Every season since 1998, our outfitter has provided unrivaled trips for our friends. The ranch is 60,000 acres and offers superb free-range hunting for roaring stags, wild boar, and valley quail. The ten miles of private trout streams offer wonderful fly-fishing for the beginner and seasoned anglers. This is an ideal destination for families with lots of activities and a fabulous lodge. Our folks love this place!

Recently, my partner, Col. Dennis Behrens, spent a couple of days checking out Los Ombues Lodge in the Entre Rios province. The Colonel reported Los Ombues is “one of the best lodges in Argentina – for sure.” This operation has been privately booked for many years. Great news: The Los Ombues’ duck, dove, and perdiz combo trips are now available to our hunters. Their guest book has an impressive list of visitors that includes members of royal families, presidents, and professional sports personalities. Their big beautiful lodge, a gun inventory of a hundred shotguns, private airstrip, kennel of highly-trained bird dogs, and thousands of acres of private land are just some of the aspects that make this is one of the finest destinations in South America.

Most of the hunting here at home is now closed. Next week I return to South Georgia for quail. In the next few months, our friends will travel to Alaska for bears; Africa for buffalo, leopard, and plains game; Paraguay for decoyed pigeons; and then back to Argentina for ducks and doves. I anticipate some great hunting and memorable experiences.

Also, see the video links below that show off a couple of top-shelf Cordoba dove lodges. They are short clips and very well produced.

Below are a couple of comments I received from hunters that traveled to Patagonia and Cordoba.

Gordie,
Just want to let you know what a great time we had hunting Red Stag and fly fishing at the Tipiliuke Lodge in Patagonia! As always you lined up a great adventure with the best accommodations but this one was above my expectations! The wives loved it and the hunting and fishing were amazing.
Thanks again,
Greg Hall, Old School Outdoors TV

Hi Gord,
We really enjoyed the lodge at Guayascate; the folks there really put forth the effort to plan and take care of every detail. The food was phenomenal, my only complaint was it all taste so good I kept forgetting to say “no”. The service was really over the top.
I’m already looking forward to our next trip.
Lee McClure

Gordie’s Book

“There are some things I knew about Gordie White before I read his book…and one important thing I did not know. I knew that he was not only an experienced hunter, but a passionate, with a genuine love for wild places and wild creatures. I knew that he’d been brought up as a hunter, and that this is, essentially, his life as well as his hobby, both his avocation and vocation. It’s my chronological misfortune to consider him young, but he’s filled his years with a tremendous amount of experience, from Canada to Africa and back again, with multiple stops in between. I knew these things because we’ve shared African campfires together…and I knew one thing more: Gordie White is one of the good guys, honest, self-deprecating, not given to the shameless self-promotion that, in this era of mass communication without accountability, turns inexperienced ‘wanna-be’s’ into self-proclaimed gurus. But there was one important thing that I did not know about Gordie White: The man can write! Although I’m sure there are more, there are two things that make a book like this worthy of reading. First, the writer must have a genuine story to tell. Second, he must be able to tell it. Gordie White passes both tests, and has given us a great story, worth telling and worth reading.”
