David, Dan and John Higman returned once again to the Dos Candados Ranch in south Texas. The ranch received great spring rains giving way to several needed hatches. I drove from Wimberley to the ranch and it rained the entire way. The guys reported a tough morning of quail hunting in the rain. The dogs pointed a few coveys and some quail were taken but the group spent a good portion of their morning getting the quail truck stuck in the mud. The afternoon was not much better. We found numerous big coveys, shot some quail and continued to get the truck buried to the axles!
The following morning was clear but a strong wind from the north blew continuously. We found a dozen coveys but 11am. We enjoyed some great covey rises and shot some birds. I left the group at noon and later received reports of a very productive afternoon with plenty of quail taken. Great to see the big coveys and all the young birds.
