The white-wings flew fast and in great numbers today….

In August, friends and I shot Mexican white-winged doves ninety miles south of Brownsville, Texas. I’d been to Steve McCain’s La Finca Lodge several times before, but this was the first trip for my friends. Welcome to Mexico!

For three days, under a bright blue sky and warm sun, we shot lots of doves and lots of shells – averaging ten to twenty boxes per outing. Between morning and afternoon shoots, we lounged in the pool or dozed in our air-conditioned rooms. Super relaxing.

McCain’s entire team worked tirelessly and provided exceptional service. The lodge is first-rate and so is the food. Guests hand-pick their Beretta or Benelli shotguns from the lodge’s well-stocked gun room.

This is a fantastic high-volume dove shoot. My friends re-booked the same dates for 2019.

“There are some things I knew about Gordie White before I read his book…and one important thing I did not know. I knew that he was not only an experienced hunter, but a passionate, with a genuine love for wild places and wild creatures.
